AVIATION

It is well known that during the WWII Lincolnshire had many airfields and was known as 'Bomber County'. Although many have since vanished there are still some remaining where you can visit a piece of history. One of the better known sites is that at RAF Coningsby which houses the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (LN4 4SY) that can be seen airbourne at many of the airshows held around the country. Besides the Lancaster, it is the home to 5 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes, a Dakota & 2 Chipmunks.

The Lincs Aviation Heritage Centre  (PE22 4DE) who has its site at East Kirkby is becoming better known these days for the work it carries out on restoring old aircraft. It is also the home of the Lancaster 'Just Jane'. One of only three that can move under its own power. This plane has been restored and regularly carries out taxi runs showing off her magnificent Merlin Engines.
